The Hopkinton, Mass., storags and information managementgiant (NYSE: EMC) said Wednesdayy the Media Lab sponsorshil is one of several initiativesd coordinated out of EMC Research which will be located at 11 Cambridge Ctr. in Mass. The center will hous e EMC’s security-business research lab, RSA Laboratories, as well as abouy a dozen researchers, technologists and business leadersacross EMC’s business units. The companhy also has research facilities in Chinaw andSanta Clara, Calif.
“Research and advancefd technology groupsacross EMC, along with our globa l university research partners, are discovering and explorinv new technologies that will shape the future of digital said Jeff Nick, EMC seniotr vice president and chief technology in a statement. “This is an incrediblee opportunity for EMC to bring together some ofthe world’sa leading research minds and innovators in areas such as personap information management, information integration and cloud As a consortium sponsor of the MIT Mediw Lab, EMC will be able to access the center’s researchu on how people use and interact with new EMC said its initialo collaboration will be on new model s for data ownership and usage, interfaces for businesd transactions and health care IT initiatives.
A consortiunm sponsorship costs $200,000 per year for a minimu of three years. Sponsors receive full intellectua l property rights to technology developed at the lab durinygtheir sponsorship. The announcement comes a week afted EMC and a group of universities and technology companies announcedf the development of a high performance computingy research facilityin Holyoke, Mass. Other tech giants have built dedicated R&fD lab in Cambridge in recent (Nasdaq: MSFT), (Nasdaq: GOOG) and (NYSE: IBM) builtr research centers in the city in the pasttwo
