” Thirty-one percent of respondentws indicated they knew that a bran d name drug cost 50-70 perceng more on average than its generic counterpart. Seventy-one percenty of consumers remain concerned about drug costw with more than one infour (27 having either delayed filling, not filled, or not taken as directedc a prescription drug to save money. Twenty-one percent of all respondentsw say they have talked to theit doctor recently about switching to a lessexpensivwe drug. Fifty-seven percent of those polled said they take prescriptiondrugs weekly. Of 83 percent (or 47 percentf of the total sample) take generics.
Of thosed who do not take generic drugz on aweekly basis, 58 percent say it is becausr there is no generic available for the drug they Sixty-four percent of those who take generics say theier doctor recommended them and 43 percent say theirr pharmacist recommended them. Of those who do not take generic drugs on aweeklt basis, 58 percent say they woulx if their pharmacist brought a generifc to their attention as a less identical substitute; and 52 percen t say their doctor would have to recommend it.
